Is it the size of their birthday present, or that they lie and tell you that you look skinny in your jeans? Is it that they agree with you all the time, or don't dare to cross you?
Maybe I am wrong...but I would venture to say just the opposite. I think a true friend sometimes forgets your birthday...but they love you so much the other 364 days of the year that it doesn't matter. I think that when you ask...do these jeans make me look fat...they laugh and say we all have a little fat on us but I think you are wonderful anyway. I think a real friend will stand up to you when you are wrong without the fear that you are going to leave...and if you are a real friend back you won't just hear them, you will listen.
A real friend will tell you that you are brave when the crowd mocks you for standing up for your beliefs...even when your real friend doesn't believe the same way. A real friend will cry with you when your own tears aren't enough to get you through the sorrow of a lost parent, child, friend or even pet.
A real friend has seen you without make up on day 3 without showering and will still hug you anyway and not mention you have been in the same clothes for days (HEY, Don't judge...it happens sometimes...not often but occasionally! If you have lost someone you love...then you understand.)
A true friend knows your weaknesses and doesn't exploit them to others, but instead builds a fortress around you and tries to protect you from both yourself and those that don't love you enough to protect you, or not hurt you.
My mother loved the song "what a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bare...what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer." I am so grateful for that friendship too. But Jesus knows me well and knew that I would need angels here on earth to get me through, to get me back. Thank you my TRUE friends, my REAL friends. I love you!
Make it a great day! Only YOU can!!!
